How We Met/ How He Proposed

How We Met/ How He Proposed

Over the last year I have received dozens of messages asking how my husband and I met and how he proposed. Here’s the story!

I was fourteen
Turner and I met when I was fourteen and he was fifteen. I grew up in a Christian home in Kansas and my parents had pretty strict rules for dating. As in, “you’re fourteen- you can’t date someone. You can’t even drive.”  😂  This was the age I was first on facebook and any type of social media. Almost everyone that I knew, knew Turner in some way. I thought he was the cutest guy I’d ever seen. We eventually connected over facebook, and knowing that I wasn’t allowed to date anyone- I asked him to be in my first band. He drummed in the worship band at his church, so I knew it wasn’t unreasonable. He said yes, and I was in. 😏
Now it gets a little fuzzy here, almost ten years later, as to if I kicked him out of the band or if he quit- but I was fourteen. Who knows.
I DO know that I wasn’t allowed to text boys, so I downloaded Skype on my computer to chat with him and saved his name in my phone as a girls name. My parents caught on eventually and I was in sooo much trouble. I’m pretty sure I was grounded for about a month. It still cracks us up. He was the first guy to get me into trouble, and now he’s the last!😅😋
So being fourteen, what made the most sense to me- since I couldn’t date Turner- was to set him up with my high school best friend! How silly is that. They hit it right off, and dated for almost a year before going separate ways. By this time I was leaving Kansas for Nashville and then went on to Atlanta for several years.

Here’s some pictures of us, the age that we first met. Oh my goodness. 😅😂

We both dated other people
but when I moved back to Kansas in the spring of 2016, we started to get to know each other again. I was quickly reminded of how kind and funny Turner was and fell head over heels for him once again. We started hanging out and having adventures in the summer of 2016 before Turner returned to K-State to finish his Bachelor of Science degrees in General Management and Supply Chain and Operations Management. On December 3rd, 2016 we went on our first real date. He took me to an amazing pizza place in Manhattan, KS- and I knew since pizza was involved, good things were coming! 😂❤️

We never stopped talking after that day. When he graduated college in December of that year, he moved back to our hometown and we were inseparable.

New Years, 2016.

I met his family for the first time
on Christmas Eve that year and we went on to get our own little apartment together in March of 2017. 🎄🏠
I have to tell you, I was terrified of getting a place together. It hit me the day before the move- what if we drove each other crazy? What if all my weird habits made him hate me? Even though we had known each other for years and years, we’d only been dating for a few months. Much to my surprise it was perfect. In a crazy world, we found our home in each other. ❤️

Two months into dating.

That first year together
we had so many challenges. Turner had to undergo two major surgeries, I spent close to 40 days in LA, I changed jobs, we moved apartments, changed cities and so many other. We went through extreme highs and lows as most couples do in their first year, but through it all we found hope, happiness and love in each other. 👫

September 27th 2017
He proposed. We were in the middle of a silly argument and I was being ridiculously stubborn. 😬

I had just returned home from a photoshoot and he was waiting in his car. He asked me to get in and we started driving out of town. No matter how many times I asked, he wouldn’t tell me where we were going. Forty minutes later we arrived at a pond he used to fish in as a child that was owned by his grandma. We had visited this same place before with his family and I knew it was one of his favorite places. He walked around the car and opened the door for me and held my hand as we looked at the dock. My heart was pounding wondering if *this was it*. All of my life I had prayed for and hoped for a man half as wonderful as Turner, and I couldn’t picture my life without him. He pointed to my left and said “Is that a beaver?” I got up to look, because beavers are cute as heck, and when I turned around he was on one knee. My heart exploded. He looked me in my eyes, teary as they were, and said “I love you more than anything. Will you marry me?” Of course.. I said yes. I didn’t stop crying and laughing and smiling for hours. 😭❤️👫

There you have it!

There’s our story. We love our crazy life together, and I can’t wait to share all of the adventures we will have with you all. Wedding blog to come soon! ❤️
